Karla Horgán Arévalo, Professional Counselor Associate
 

Karla is a cis-gender, female identifying therapist. Karla holds a Master of Arts in Counseling, with a focus on Clinical Mental Health from the University of Colorado Denver. As a Guatemalan native, she identifies as bicultural and bilingual (English and Spanish).

 

Karla has 13 years of professional experience supporting Latin/e/x, Hispanic, Chicano and/or Spanish speaking immigrant folks. Over the past few years, her focus has been supporting the DACA and undocumented community. Karla works with adolescents and adult individuals.   

 

Karla approaches work with her clients through a person-centered and anti-oppressive, systemic lens. She believes healing happens when we feel connected and heard, therefore her hope is to create a welcoming, empathetic space for all clients. She recognizes individuals have unique lived experiences and there isn’t a one-size-fits all approach to healing. Karla utilizes proven modalities like Narrative, Art, Somatic/Mindfulness, Cognitive Behavioral, and Solution-Focused Brief Therapy. As well as Motivational Interviewing skills. Karla also provides Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)

Karla is a Registered Professional Counselor Associate with the State of Oregon Board of Licensed Professional Counselors and Therapists (OBLPCT), and she abides by its Code of Ethics. Karla is currently working on obtaining her license as a Professional Counselor in Oregon and is currently under the supervision of Lucrecia Suárez, LCSW.
